Galvanized Self-Watering Planter from Gardener’s Supply: Product Review

This is one of my favorite self-watering planters. Not only does it look great, it also works very well. The capillary tubes do a fantastic job of wicking water from the reservoir up to the plant roots. The galvanized steel sides and faux wood aluminum trim withstand even Tucson’s summer blast furnace. And the optional casters make the planters easy to move around. Continue Reading

The Guide To Humane Critter Control: Natural, Nontoxic Pest Solutions To Protect Your Yard And Garden by Theresa Rooney – Book Review

Theresa Rooney’s Guide to Humane Critter Control is filled with practical, pesticide-free ideas about how to prevent, or stop, annoying bugs and small mammals from damaging your garden. It’s a book that should be at the fingertips of novice gardeners, as well as more experienced gardeners who want to transition from the knee-jerk use of poisons to more eco-friendly methods. Expert gardeners may not find much new here, but it’s a nice refresher course. Continue Reading

Deluxe Tractor Scoot from Gardener’s Supply Company: Product Review

The Deluxe Tractor Scoot from Gardener’s Supply Company is a wheeled, adjustable seat with an attached basket to haul things around in, a tray for small tools and a handle for pulling it around. It’s ideal for anyone who enjoys spending time in the garden but can no longer bend, stoop or stand for long periods - or for those who just want to be in a relaxed sitting position while working in the garden. Continue Reading

Allsop Premium Grow Stake: Product Review

The Allsop Premium Grow Stake is a strong, sleek, aluminum stake with several unique features that make it a worthwhile purchase for staking larger, heavier plants. I like the adjustable telescoping pole that you can extend as the plant grows, as well as the “foot” that stabilizes the stake in the ground. The adjustable tie-down cleats make it easy to secure tree trunks, stalks and other plantings without tying a lot of knots. And the Continue Reading

Digz Gardener High Performance Women’s Gardening Gloves: Product Review

The Digz High Performance gloves are terrific for light- to medium-duty gardening tasks. They’re comfortable, flexible and breathable, with great dexterity, extra padding in all the right places, and a snug, adjustable wrist closure that keeps dirt out. If you’re not going to get the gloves dirty, they work well with a touchscreen phone and the terrycloth thumb backing is nice for wiping sweat off your face. The Digz gloves have quickly become my gloves Continue Reading

Fiskars StaySharp™ 18” Max Reel Mower: Product Review

If you have the strength to use a standard push mower (non self-propelled), you’ll have no problem using this reel mower. This is a high-quality mower that’s simple to assemble, easily adjustable, and folds for storage. It does a very good job of cutting most grass (it struggles a bit with overly tall or thick grass), although it doesn’t mulch the clippings and there’s no bag attachment. The added bonus is that you aren’t burning Continue Reading

Allsop WheelEasy™ Foldable Garden Cart: Product Review

The Allsop WheelEasy Folding Garden Cart is lightweight, maneuverable, durable, well constructed, and easy to store. It carries a lot of weight (350 lbs.) and is as easy to dump as a standard wheelbarrow (just a little different – it’s a side dump vs. an over the top dump). I like it so much that is has become a go to tool for raking up yard debris for Spring and Fall cleanups and moving compost Continue Reading

Vegepod Self-Watering Planter: Product Review

This is one of my favorite gardening containers. It produces bountiful crops, is self-watering, protects plants from birds and other pests, and takes up limited space – great for patio gardening. With the optional stand (with or without casters), you can garden at waist height. The cover keeps pesky critters away, is easy to open and close, and has an integrated watering system. It does take patience to assemble all the parts but the instructions Continue Reading

Corona DualLINK with ComfortGEL Bypass Pruner (PB 4314): Product Review

This pruner does exactly what Corona says it will do -cut through ¾ inch stems and branches with ease. The DualLINK technology acts as a compound action lever to increase power, and the ComfortGEL handles act as a bumper to reduce hand fatigue. It's well-made from quality materials, has sharp, high carbon steel blades, the lock works well, and the non-slip handles are comfortable to hold. All in all, it's an excellent bypass pruner that Continue Reading

Greenworks G-MAX 12” Cordless Chainsaw: Product Review

The Greenworks G-MAX 12” Cordless Chainsaw is a smaller, lightweight cordless chainsaw that has a surprising amount of power and can cut through 10” tree trunks. Its power to weight ratio is darn good, it’s nice and quiet and will run for over 25 minutes on a single charge. Overall, this is a good saw for odd jobs around the yard and smaller wood/tree cutting. It’s available in 14” and 16” models for larger jobs. Continue Reading
