The Fiskars Corporation that we know today started in 1649 in a Finnish village called Fiskars. At the time, the company was known for producing plows that were superior in design and steel quality. Fiskars is now a leading global supplier of consumer products for home, garden, and outdoors. Fiskars produces many different types of gardening tools and accessories, many of which I own, so I was interested in trying one of their trowels: the Fiskars Ergo Trowel 300S.

Handle

The Fiskars Ergo Trowel 300S is 12 inches long with an orange and black plastic handle. Fortunately for gardeners, the Fiskars signature orange color in the handle makes the trowel easy to find in the grass or in the garden.

There’s a hole at the end of the handle (from front to back) with a black nylon cord looped through it so you can hang the trowel up in the tool shed. Because the hole is through the front, it doesn’t rub against the palm of your hand.

Ergonomic Design

As stated in the name, the handle is ergonomically designed; it’s slightly contoured to give you a better grip and has a non-slip surface in the middle. I was able to use it easily – my wrist didn’t hurt or get cramped while I was digging and planting.

Because it’s made of aluminum, the trowel is lightweight (about 3 ounces), making it ideal for those who fatigue easily or spend a lot of time working with a trowel.

Resistant Trowel Head

The trowel head is made of rust-resistant cast aluminum. It’s not razor sharp but it is more beveled toward the tip, making it easy to dig into the soil. The sides curve up so it holds soil, which helps when digging holes and pushing the soil aside or filling containers.

And if it’s accidentally left outside, it’s not going to quickly rust.

The Fiskars website offers a return policy for products that were purchased online from Fiskars. Where to buy

Fiskars gardening products are available at many different types of retail outlets: nurseries, hardware stores, Target, Walmart, Amazon, and through the Fiskars United States website.

Recommendation

I recommend this trowel for any gardener. It is lightweight, is corrosion resistant, has a secure grip, and is a good value for the money. It digs well through a variety of soil types and is comfortable to use based on its ergonomic design. This is a not a trowel that has to be cleaned, dried, and coddled so it would be an inexpensive model for beginners or young gardeners to use.
