I work with gardeners at a local demonstration garden and we had the opportunity to try the DeWit Rock’n Root Trowel in a variety of situations and seasons. With a catchy name and a unique, non-traditional shape for a trowel, this tool found many fans in our gardening group.

The Rock’n Root Trowel is perfect for digging between plants and in tight spaces

Perfect For Use In Tight Spaces

With a narrower blade than most other trowels, this hand tool is very versatile and useful, specifically in small, narrow spaces, where you can use it without damage to adjacent plants or roots.

We found it most useful when transplanting seedlings; we would plunge the trowel into the soil, pull it towards us, drop the seedling’s roots into the space between the trowel and soil, remove the trowel, tamp the soil and have a successfully transplanted plant.  This tool and technique made fast work of planting a large quantity of seedlings and transplants into the raised gardening beds.

At the end of our summer season, when cleaning out the beds, we found this trowel a great tool when digging up deeply-rooted plants.

Sturdy & Comfortable Handle

The wooden (ash) handle is sturdy and comfortable, and should last a long time if kept clean and dry. I do recommend wearing gardening gloves when using the DeWit Rock’n Root trowel (and when gardening in general) as it would give a bit of extra comfort if you’ll be using the wooden handle for an extended period of time.

DeWit wooden handles come from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, government-controlled forests. This regulates the use of wood and the replanting of trees for a greener environment.

Forged Steel Blade

The 5-inch long boron steel blade, forged to provide strength and durability, is easy to clean with a quick wipe from a damp cloth.

Despite being made of wood and steel, the Rock’n Root trowel isn’t at all heavy, weighing in at only ½ pound.

Made in Holland

The Rock’n Root Trowel is made in Holland by DeWit, a garden tool manufacturer that was founded April 1, 1898, when Willem de Wit started his blacksmith company in Kornhorn, a small village in northern Holland. Today, the 4th generation of the forging family runs the company.

Lifetime Guarantee

DeWit provides a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser against manufacturer defects and workmanship. If you have any covered problem with it, they’ll replace it at no cost.

Recommendation

Strong yet lightweight, tough and well balanced, we enjoyed using the DeWit Rock’n Root Trowel for many gardening chores, especially in tight spaces.  With a lifetime guarantee, this tool is a great value for the price of $20.00.
