Radius Root Slayer Edger: Product Review

This sturdy, ergonomic edger has a unique blade design that allows it to easily cut through roots when edging. A wide step lets you quickly plunge the edger deep into the soil and the O-handle grip lets you rock the edger from side to side to saw through roots. Built to last, with a lifetime warranty, this is one tool every gardener who likes neatly-edged beds will want. Continue Reading

If you’ve ever struggled to dig in soil with roots everywhere, you’ll appreciate this innovative shovel that slices through roots while easily digging any hole you need. Melnor RainCloud Smart Water Timer: Product Review

This 4-valve, smart water timer is controlled from the comfort of your home - or anywhere with internet access. Using the free app or desktop program, you can set and change watering programs for each zone independently and at any time. The control box is hard wired to your modem and the valve unit screws onto your outdoor faucet. It's easy to use, simple to set up, and works like a charm. However, since it Continue Reading

Sun Joe Lithium-Ion 40-volt 12-inch Cordless Tiller + Cultivator: Product Review

Don't be fooled by its toy-like looks - the Sun Joe tiller + cultivator is a real workhorse! Lightweight, maneuverable, and compact, it's ideal for anyone with a smaller garden or limited storage space (the fold-down handles are a plus!). It's extremely quiet (making it great for those living with neighbors nearby or with strict noise pollution standards), incredibly easy to use, and the sharp blades and power easily turn hard soil into something your Continue Reading

Corona Adjustable Grip Bypass Pruner: Product Review

The Corona Adjustable Grip bypass pruner is an innovative product that adjusts to fit different hand sizes and fits both small and large hands very well. It has excellent fit and finishes, a reliable locking mechanism, soft comfortable grips, and an easy-to-maneuver angled cutting head, although the bumpers don’t cushion as well as they should when making larger cuts. It cuts cleanly up to ¾ inches (not the 7/8 inches claimed on the packaging). For Continue Reading

Garden Weasel Multi-Use Transplanter: Product Review

This cross between a trowel and hori-hori would be good for someone who gardens a lot, has a small space to work with, and has good hand and knee functionality. With four blades instead of two (including two serrated and two sharp edges), it does a good job with multiple gardening tasks, from weeding to planting to cutting. It’s good value for the price, comfortable to hold, and relatively lightweight. Continue Reading

EZ Leaf Hauler: Product Review

The EZ Leaf Hauler is a novel product for picking up and disposing of leaves. It’s essentially a large, heavy-duty tarp with 3 sets of handles for dragging, rolling, or stowing. Plus, it uses fiberglass poles to hold the back and edges up (like a giant dustpan) and stakes to keep the leading edge taut against the ground so leaves go into the hauler rather than under it. It worked very well and made Continue Reading

Redback 40V Lithium Ion Cordless Pole Chainsaw (106070): Product Review

This is a decent pole chainsaw that cuts aggressively but can stop unexpectedly. I had stopping problems with the first saw I tested but Redback Customer Service quickly sent me a replacement that didn’t have the same issues. It’s well balanced, easy to use with the included shoulder strap and will run for about 25 minutes when fully charged. The instruction manual needs a major revamp and the bar and chain oiler cap has the Continue Reading

TreePans: Product Review

Overall, the TreePan worked as promised. It takes a little practice to put it together but once it’s in place it doesn’t require any work. It protected the tree I placed it around and the tree is now thriving. TreePans are made in the USA from recycled plastic that stands up well to the elements and requires no maintenance. Plus they’re reusable. However, some home gardeners may find that the appearance of the TreePan doesn’t Continue Reading

The Gardener’s Revolution® Classic Vine Planter: Product Review

Overall, this is an attractive self-watering planter and trellis kit that may do best on lawn or bare ground that will absorb reservoir water overflow. The components are sturdy and well made. The 5 gallon reservoir is easy to fill, the capillary strip wicks water from the reservoir to keep soil evenly moist and the trellis holds climbing plants easily. However, there’s no water level indicator so it’s difficult to know when to refill the Continue Reading

Irrigatia Solar Automatic Watering System (SOL-C24): Product Review

The Irrigatia SOL-C24 is a drip irrigation system that uses solar energy to power a small pump that allows you to irrigate with water directly from your rain barrel – no hookup to a faucet or electrical outlet required! The system is ideal for smaller gardens and patios, and installation is simple and quick. The controller waters only when it’s sunny (so no overwatering on rainy days) and can take care of plants while you’re Continue Reading
