Troy-Bilt Premium Folding Hand Saw (RE-K): Product Review

The Troy-Bilt Premium Folding Hand Saw makes very clean and fast cuts – some of the best that I’ve tested. However, the cutting teeth don’t extend the full length of the blade so the saw constantly gets hung up near the handle (unless you’re very careful to make shorter sawing motions which, realistically, isn’t going to happen). I also don’t like having to use an Allen wrench to adjust blade tension (rather than a standard Continue Reading

Corona Branch & Stem Bypass Pruner (BP 4180): Product Review

The Corona Branch & Stem bypass pruner is lightweight, durable, has nice tight tolerances and good fit and finish. The ergonomic handle design makes the tool comfortable to hold and the angled cutting head is terrific for getting into tight spots. The cutting blade is razor sharp and cleaves its way through extremely hard wood with ease, although the bumper could use some improvement. Plus, Corona offers replacement parts for everything except the handles. Put Continue Reading

A.M. Leonard Ergonomic Bypass Pruner (#1234): Product Review

If you’re in the market for a quality bypass hand pruner at a competitive price, then the A.M. Leonard Ergonomic Bypass Pruner (model #1234) is a definite contender. You’re not going to get the highest quality or features of the most expensive competitors, but what you will get is a pruner that if taken care of properly will likely last a lifetime. It makes excellent pruning cuts, is very comfortable to hold, and reaches into Continue Reading

Gardener’s Supply Folding Hand Saw: Product Review

If you’re looking for a great folding pruning saw, this is a definite contender. With its long-lasting, impulse hardened teeth and ability to cut in both directions, it makes quick work of cutting through even the hardest wood. The sticky rubberized handle gives you excellent grip, the locking mechanism works flawlessly, and the large adjustment screw makes it easy to adjust the handle/blade tension. Plus, it still fits securely into a hip pocket. What more Continue Reading

ARS Pocket Saw (SA-210DX): Product Review

Of all the saws I’ve reviewed, this is one of my favorites. I particularly like its shorter length, which makes it easy to slip into a pocket or backpack. Everything works exactly as it should and performs at the highest level, including the comfortable, non-slip handle design, the marquench hardened blade, swing lock blade locking mechanism, adjustable tension and aggressive cutting capability. If you do a lot of pruning, want a small compact saw and Continue Reading

ARS Folding Hand Saws (SA-G18HL and SA-G18L): Product Review

This folding hand saw from ARS comes with two blade options – marquench hardened (SA-G18L) or impulse hardened (SA-G18HL) high carbon steel. Regardless of the blade choice, this is my favorite saw of all that I’ve reviewed. Everything from the handle design to the carbon steel blades, and from the swing lock blade locking mechanism to the adjustable blade tension screams “quality!”. Sure, it’s more expensive than other folding handsaws I’ve tested but it’s well Continue Reading

Corona 1¼-inch Long Reach Pruner (TP 3206): Product Review

The Corona 1¼-inch Long Reach Pruner (TP 3206) is a 62-inch bypass stick pruner. It’s well designed for its intended use, makes very clean cuts up to about ¾ inch diameter, and is lightweight enough to be used for hours at a time. The rotating/tilting head gives you almost infinite approach angles when trying to reach awkwardly-placed branches (this is one of the outstanding features of the pruner). The rubberized surfaces and design of the Continue Reading

Corona Long Reach Cut ‘n’ Hold Bypass Pruner (LR 3460): Product Review

I liked this extendable bypass pole pruner very much. It’s lightweight (only barely over 1 lb!), makes clean cuts, and is comfortable and easy to handle. The “cut ‘n’ hold” blades keep a firm grip on branches and stems as they’re cut off so you can easily dispose of them. It allowed me to work on low shrubs without stooping or kneeling, gave me much longer reach for larger shrubs and small trees, allowed for Continue Reading

AeroGarden Bounty Elite Wi-Fi: Product Review

The AeroGarden Bounty Elite is an exceptionally easy-to-use countertop garden that includes everything you need to produce a bountiful crop of hydroponic herbs, veggies or flowers in a small space. The clear instructions make set-up a breeze and the LCD panel lets you monitor and control everything you need to keep the system running smoothly. The LED light panel emits a bright white light (not purple like some LED grow lights) and the liquid plant Continue Reading

Centurion Link-Force Double-Gear Drive (Monster) Lopper: Product Review

I’m a big fan of this lopper and highly recommend it, although it’s probably not the best choice for those who are petite or have limited upper body strength. The guillotine-style, geared cutting head is by far the most interesting design I’ve seen in quite some time. It works exceptionally well on deadwood, blasting through 2-inch deadwood like a hot knife through butter. If you have a lot of deadwood pruning to do, this is Continue Reading

Greenworks 24 Volt, 2-speed Cordless Sweeper: Product Review

I would unequivocally recommend this sweeper. It has a lot of nice features, including dual speeds, light weight, excellent balance and charge indicator lights on the battery. I like the extra power when it's needed and the lower MPH for normal applications (and conserving battery life). It removes the debris that a broom can’t touch, and does it with speed and precision. Note that this is not a blower and so wouldn't be useful for Continue Reading
