Perfect for EVERYONE!
The Weed Dragon is the perfect propane torch kit for home and garden use. We've regulated the flame and BTU down for homeowners who don't need the power of a farm torch and we've even assembled it. This torch kit is still plenty powerful for lots of tough jobs all year long and generates heat up to 2,000° F. The 100,000 BTU Weed Dragon quickly hooks up to any refillable propane tank (barbecue cylinders work great) and even comes with a hand-tighten tank fitting (you don't even need a wrench!). Overall length from torch bell to back of handle is 27 1/2 inches. For outdoor use only.
Save Propane with a Squeeze Valve!
The Red Dragon V-880P/H-1 allows you to add a squeeze valve and handle to any Red Dragon Vapor Torch Kit (EXCLUDING THE MINI Dragons and HT11/2-10CR TORCH Kits). Perfect for those who use a Red Dragon Torch Kit for spot weeding and instances where full flame is not continuously required. This kit will quickly pay for itself in propane savings. The all-brass squeeze valve has an adjustable pilot feature.

Having trouble starting your torch? Give us a call or see how to properly start your torch kit below!
How Do I Properly Start My Torch Kit?
Starting with everything off and closed (Propane tank and needle valve) slowly crack the knob of your propane tank about ¼ to ½ of a turn. This will provide plenty of propane flow, depending on the level of propane in your tank, to provide a large usable flame. Next, you need to wait about 5-10 seconds for the propane to fill the hose. You will then slowly crack your adjusting needle valve about ½ a turn, and then proceed to light the torch. Following this procedure (also listed in your torch kit's instruction booklet) will prevent the safety valve from engaging and prohibiting your use. If you find that you have turned your kit on too quickly, shut everything off and give the P.O.L. safety feature time to reset (about 1 minute). See also instructions for clearing your Torch Kit's orifice. Hint: Neither the tank valve nor the needle valve on the torch needs to be opened all the way to get a usable flame.

And because I am moving around a lot doing quite a bit of spot torch work, I think this model, which allows switching between pilot light mode and full heat with a higher pressure squeeze valve, is great for that purpose. It prevents a lot of wasted gas.
There are cheaper torches, some from overseas, but this is well-made and dependable and worth the modest extra expense. There is no specified warranty period on the website: "We warrant all goods to be free of defects in material and workmanship. We repair or replace defective merchandise returned upon authorization." So, this is real lifetime warranty against defects. There is very little to wear out and these are mostly easily replaceable standard parts if service is required. The primary specialized part is the squeeze valve/trigger.
The only thing I noticed when i first used it is it easy to accidentally turn off the pilot valve which is part of the squeeze valve assembly while holding and using the squeeze handle. If you do that, you would have to readjust and re-light after using the squeeze valve. It just takes some awareness and getting used to and not holding your hand in a way that moves the pilot valve to the closed position.
I also purchased the propane tank dolly separately, which I have also reviewed.
Update: After using for a short period, I made a minor modification that I think could be important. I noticed there is no bend/strain relief on the black hose between the propane tank and torch. I know these are standard hoses. But if the torch is stored vertically on the company's propane tank dolly, the end of the hose connected to the torch bends sharply and begins to develop a kink in only a couple of days just from the weight of the hose hanging down. These types of propane hoses really are not designed to have a right angle bend on either end. This is not much of a problem with the hose connection to the tank, but it is definitely a weak point on the connection to the torch handle. Given enough time, the flow of gas could be affected, or worse yet, cause the hose to fail. I was able to solve this by removing the hose from the torch and installing a 4” piece of braided vinyl hose (21’’ OD and 15mm ID) over the hose and slide it into place after reconnecting the hose to the torch. It works perfectly and makes the bend a lot more gradual. I actually installed it on both ends of the hose as long as I had if off. I am sure there is something better out there, like an integral anti-bend spring at the hose ends that are usually installed on gas welding torches in order to avoid this problem. I did give feedback to the company on this, so hopefully, they will consider it and improve the design.
Having said all that. I suppose if I was doing asphalt or roofing work this device would work great, as well. The flame boost would have serious impact on any work requiring such heat. Just be careful with the flame. It is powerful.
Additional thought: I purchased a 10lb tank from Amazon and use that with the flame torch. It is lighter to carry around and works great. It doesn't last as long, but for me, plenty long for a summer of use. The handle is easy to use and the device easy to light. If I am doing an rocked area or open space where I don't want weeds, I use an application of pre-emergent spray after nuking the weeds. The flame, sort of like a forest fire, doesn't kill all the seeds. So the pre-emergent spray prevents any seeds from sprouting.
Lasted 3 years of light, warm weather usage. Appears nozzle at the tip of the wand has rusted out. Does not appear nozzle is designed to be replaced by owner. The rest of the burner components look great, but it is now useless…
The burner uses rust resistant brass on most key components. Would have appreciated something more rust resistant for the nozzle. Or a design that allows the owner to replace it..,
Original Review
Works. Easy to use. Bought to clear brick walkway and gravel driveway.
Takes 2 to 3 applications to get down to bare surface. 1st pass just to make grass and weeds wither. 2nd pass (a week later) to burn off withered brown grass & weeds, and to wither any green material missed the 1st pass. 3rd pass (another week later) to burn off withered material from 2nd pass.
You can try to burn down to bare surface in 1 pass, but it will take a lot of extra time and propane to go directly from green state to ash. Also, recommend raking area clear of dead leaves, pine needles and grass before burning. And have a water hose ready to go.
Search YouTube for “how to use” videos. Useful tool. But like a chainsaw, be extremely careful. You’ll probably need to move if you set the neighborhood on fire. And 3rd degree burns are forever...
