Dramm One Touch Shower & Stream Hose Nozzle: Product Review

We independently evaluate all recommended products and services. If you click on links we provide, we may receive compensation.

As you might guess, the Dramm One Touch Shower & Stream hose nozzle has two spray patterns, shower and stream (also called “jet”).  It also features their One Touch on/off valve that operates with just a push of your thumb.

Two Useful Spray Patterns

With the Shower & Stream nozzle, Dramm chose to include only the two spray patterns most often used in the garden. After all, why have a bunch of patterns that you won’t use?

The shower pattern provides a steady flow of water with just enough pressure to water your plants but not knock them down or tear them apart. This is the spray pattern I use to water pretty much everything in the garden.

The stream (jet) is powerful and focused – it knocks harmful bugs off shrubs, cleans muddy pathways and tools, and helps wash the car.

To change between the two patterns, just rotate the ring around the end of the hose nozzle.  Each spray pattern is clearly marked and you’ll feel and hear a “click” as it locks into place.

One Touch On/Off

The One Touch mechanism is a plastic valve that you can move with your thumb to shut the water on or off, and to control water flow.

It’s strategically placed right where your thumb naturally sits while holding the nozzle, making it super easy to operate (except, perhaps, for gardeners with very small hands).

A few years ago I tested the One Touch valve on a Dramm Rain Wand thinking that it might break down or leak over time. Three years later, there’s no sign of leakage and it still works perfectly. I’ve tested several other nozzles with similar on/off valves and the Dramm One Touch truly is head and shoulders above them all when it comes to ergonomic placement, ease of use and consistency.

Built to Last

The Dramm Shower & Stream is made of heavy-duty metal with a sturdy plastic watering head and selector ring. After two years of dragging mine across gravel, the plastic is finally starting to show some wear – but most of my other nozzles have long since fallen apart. The Dramm nozzle is definitely built to last.

The hand grip is ergonomically shaped and features a textured, insulating grip that’s comfortable to hold and non-slip.

As with all Dramm consumer products, the hose nozzle is powder coated in one of their six signature colors – red, orange, yellow, green, blue or berry. Personally, I like the fun look of the colors and, as an added benefit it’s hard to lose the nozzle in the garden! (unless you choose a green nozzle)

There is no water leakage, either from the hose connection or the One Touch valve. Although there is a washer already in the rain wand, I recommend inserting another high-quality, rubber washer into the connection point (such as this one from Gilmour) to prevent any future leaks.

Lifetime Guarantee

Dramm guarantees their products for your lifetime – and they have excellent customer service to back that up.

The Wisconsin-based company has been in existence for 75 years, starting with nozzles for the commercial horticultural industry and then moving into the home gardening market in the 1960s. They’re well known for their quality watering tools.

Recommendation

If you’re looking for a comfortable, well-built hose nozzle for the garden that has only the two spray patterns you most often use – a gentle shower and a strong jet – then the Dramm One Touch Shower & Stream is an excellent choice. It comes in six fun colors, has an ergonomic and easy-to-use water control valve, and sprays extremely well.

Where To Buy

Dramm products are sold at independent garden centers and online sources. You’ll sometimes find a few models at the big box stores but be sure it’s a real Dramm – there are a lot of knock-offs on the market.

I recommend buying it on Amazon where you’ll find it in your choice of color.
